Hi, welcome to Simacan! Tell us, who's Nick?
I'm Nick, 28 years old and I live in Zwolle. In my spare time I love games, in all sizes! And I don't mind a beer in time either.
Like other new colleagues, you joined us in strange times. What was your first impression of Simacan?
It was indeed strange to come to the office for the first time when I was already working for Simacan for a month. Still, I had a pleasant start and got to know quite a few of my colleagues. It does help that a lot of things are done through video calls, including coffee-time and Friday afternoon drinks.
Where did your working life start?
I studied technical computer science in Enschede. After finishing in Enschede I went to Delft for a master's degree in Software Technology. Before that, I worked at the Port of Rotterdam Authority through Codestar for 2 years. In Rotterdam I worked on a very similar product to what Simacan delivers, but the focus was on shipping. The technology stack is very similar to Simacan, so I can use the technical and domain knowledge right away!
Can you tell us a bit more about your new role at Simacan? What are you going to do and what are you looking forward to the most?
I am already working as a Product Engineer at team Lambda. I used to do a lot with compiler technologies and something that is very interesting to me, so I like to work on things like the planning service where we need to be able to import different exotic formats. I also find event sourcing very interesting and we are going to work on that with sending information to on-board computers of trucks.
